Here is a short article from the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) about a very important topic – the Texas school finance system.
Although this article contains a lot of education finance lingo, the basic message is clear: Speaker Joe Straus is challenging state legislators to fix school finance.
The current system increasingly relies on shifting money away from wealthier school districts to fund poorer ones. Within two years, DISD could be subject to “Robin Hood,” meaning some of your tax dollars will be redirected away from our students.
What do you think about that? What changes to you think the state should make?
Now is a good time to let your state representative and senator know your thoughts about how our schools are financed.
